Glacier Park International Airport – Terminal Expansion
Delivery Method: GC/CM | Phase 1: 187,051 SF | Phase 2: 57,988 SF
Swank led the terminal expansion at Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA), one of the fastest-growing airports in the country and the gateway to Glacier National Park and the Flathead Valley — a region whose passenger traffic climbed from roughly 350,000 to 550,000 travelers a year during the course of construction, growing more than 10% annually. Delivered under a GC/CM model, the project added six new jet bridges and the Flathead Valley's first escalators — a defining upgrade for a terminal that had long been outgrown by its own success.
The team built through some of the most difficult conditions the industry has seen in a generation — construction spanning the COVID-19 pandemic, the market escalation that followed it, and 2025 tariff-driven material inflation — all while keeping the terminal open to passengers 365 days a year, 20 hours a day, without interruption. Pulling that off meant sequencing the work around a live, operating airport: 2 administrative moves, 2 rental car agency relocations, 2 ticket counter moves, 6 gate counter moves, and 7 maintenance staff relocations, all coordinated so travelers never lost access.
By the numbers:
23,000 SF mat slab and 94,000 SF of slabs on grade and decks | 1,036 tons of structural steel and 29,000 SF of new wood structure | 235,000 feet of metal framing | 39,000 SF of exterior insulation, siding, and precast | 350,000 SF of drywall hung, taped, and painted | 13,000 SF of wood walls and 37,000 SF of wood ceiling | 1,100 pieces of glass | 50,000 SF of acoustic treatment | 88,000 SF of flooring | 36,700 feet (7 miles) of pipe | 347,000 feet (65 miles) of low-voltage cabling | 665,000 feet (125 miles) of electrical cabling | 9,000 feet of underground piping and conduit.
This is a career-defining project for the region — a full transformation of Montana's gateway to Glacier National Park, executed without ever closing the doors.
